Question 1

Answer: B

We do not get given any clear answer to this question so we just have to pick the one that we know is correct (rather than one that could be correct). C and E are not even remotely relevant. D is completely wrong as it is clear that the author thinks percussion is worse than those three instrumental families. So it is a balance between A and B. The answer is B because 'drums' are not mentioned, only 'percussion' is, so we cannot say that 'drums' are the worst when it may well be a different percussion instrument.

Question 2

Answer: D

This should be quite obvious; the problem is that it is a very time-consuming comprehension question. You should try and spot these questions before you start reading the text so that you can find the words as you are reading the text for the first time, hopefully this will save you some precious seconds.

Question 3

Answer: C

Option B is quite tempting but we do know one small thing and that is that Brass Bands are the best (according to the author). Even though we know nothing more than that, it still gives the indication that C is the correct answer.

Question 4

Answer: A

Options D and E are on the right lines but not quite correct. In the context the meaning of homogenised is clear and, for those who did not already know the word 'homogeneous' the clue is that 'homo' means 'the same' hence it being about one blended sound.
